Bartlett Wilhelmina A. “Billie” Pignotti nee Palshis 100, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on March 13, 2018. She was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, on April 30, 1917 where she married her high school sweetheart Dino in 1940 and raised her children, Dennis (Dorothy), Joseph (Joyce), Roseann Kowalski (James) and Mary Faulconer (James). She has 8 grandchildren: Lynann Monroe, Joel Pignotti, Dino Pignotti, Chris Kowalski, Jill Cheskes, Deann Moran, John Faulconer and Nick Faulconer and 11 great grandchildren living in Illinois, Virginia and Florida. Billie also leaves her beloved sisters-in-law Eleanor Sinopoli and Rosemary Pignotti and numerous nieces and nephews. She also lived in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for many years where she has left behind many friends. Billie graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1935. There she was an avid athlete, playing basketball, softball and tennis. She was very active in student government and was elected as mayor of the City of Bloom during her senior year. She was also the Illinois representative to the national conference for Student Body presidents held in Denver, Colorado during that year. In Tennis, she and a friend were city doubles champions for a couple of years. Her business career was wide and varied. She worked for the Jones Community Center after her graduation from high school and kept working there as a volunteer after her children were born. She was the bookkeeper and hostess at Cipriani’s Restaurant, working with family and life-long friends. She then went to Heritage Olympia Bank in the new accounts and loan department. When her youngest went away to college, she also went to college to pursue her dream of becoming a social worker. After completing the necessary courses, she went to work for Cook County and then the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services from which she retired at age 65. Her volunteer career was also long and illustrious. She was an elected member of the school board for high school district 206 (Bloom High School) for 18 years where she also served as secretary. She volunteered at the Jones Memorial Community Center, Respond Now and the Humane Society for many years and was chairman of the Bloom Township High School Hall of Fame Organizing Committee in 1975. In 2010 she was inducted into the Bloom High School Hall of Fame for her 18 years of service on the school board and her countless volunteer hours to Bloom and to many community organizations. Born and raised in Historic Pullman, she was a longtime resident of Hickory Hills. Retired after many years of service as a secretary in the Loop offices of Amoco Oil. Loving daughter of the late Angela nee Perosa and Cristiano Trevisan. Beloved sister of the late Leno Trevisan. Fond cousin and friend of many. Mary was a dedicated member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. Chicago Heights Andrew “Andy” Pulec, age 81. Longtime resident of Chicago Heights, passed away peacefully on February 27th after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Andy enjoyed playing golf, watching the Chicago Cubs, listening to polka music and traveling to Disney World. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Norinne nee Mazzocca. longtime Chicago Heights Helen Mikos nee Malvestuto, age 91. Longtime Chicago Heights area resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27th in Springboro, OH. Loving wife of the late Leo Mikos. Devoted mother of the late Joseph Mikos. Daughter of the late Rose nee Malvestuto and Ralph Mikos. Dear sister of June Dandurand, Louis (Wilhelmina) Malvestuto, and the late Constance (late Robert) Burns and Edith DeDoes. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Retired Housing Manager for Garden House of Park Forest. Helen was the first Executive Officer for the South Suburban Board of Realtors and the first for the Joliet-Will County Board of Realtors. After her husband’s death, she was broker-manager of the Mikos Real Estate-Showcase of Homes in Chicago Heights and Beecher. Helen was a graduate of the Illinois Realtors Institute and served as Chairperson of the Illinois State Executive Officers, Professional Standards and Multiple Listing Committees for the State and National Realtors organizations. She received the 1974 Realtors “Special Award” for service to community and Real Estate profession. A proud member of St. Agnes Parish and Women’s Club, where she served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Minister of Care. Helen received her certification as Catechist, and Bible facilitator from the Archdiocese of Chicago. She was a CCD facilitator and catechist for 16 years, and organized weekend retreats and Days of Recollection for the Chicago Heights area. Graduate of St. Anne Grade School, Bloom Township High School and Mundelein College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Helen was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years and served as Grand Regent and Trustee of the Chicago Heights Court #136. She served on the Chicago Heights Public Library Board of Trustees for 31 years. She held the offices of Trustee, Vice President, Secretary, President and Chairman of the new building committee until its dedication. Humanitarian causes and philanthropic efforts included those for migrant children summer programs and assistance to Spanish speaking residents of Chicago Heights and Marian Catholic High School. A memorial mass will be held at St. Agnes Church, 1501 Chicago Rd. on Saturday May 12th at 10:00 AM. Burial of ashes Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. A luncheon will follow.
