Romeo S. Formentini, Jr. - 94

Romeo S. Formentini, Jr. Age 94 passed away in his home on Sunday November 21, 2021 surrounded by his family. Homewood resident, Romy was born to the late Romeo and Vittoria (Tribo) Formentini. He was a loving husband to his wife of over 60 years Patricia (Cornick), and beloved father to Elizabeth (Kenneth Ranney) and Christina Formentini. A friend to all he met, he would always go the extra mile to help out anyone in need and was always giving his daughters a hand. He was raised in Chicago Heights and attended Mt. Carmel School where he graduated in 1942 and Bloom High School where he was inducted as a member of the National Honor Society prior to his 1946 graduation. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Japan. After his army honorable discharge, he received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1953, where he was a member of the rowing team, Varsity boxing team and Engineering Society.

He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1060, Knights of Columbus, Chicago Heights Council #997, and member of Mt. Carmel Club.  He was employed at Waste Management where he established their safety program and travelled all over the United States and Saudi Arabia. Following his retirement, he continued to work, founding Select Safety Services. He also found the time to pursue his interest in the legal system graduating with an Associate degree in Applied Sciences from the South Suburban College Paralegal/Legal Assistant program.  He was a Master Gardener, Model A club member and remained an avid traveler, visiting many countries with his wife.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters Elizabeth and Christina, nieces Victoria Mancini, Mary (John) Harrell, and nephews Paul (Bonnie), Louis, and Jeff Formentini.

Romy is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Louis (late Yolonda), Albert and Guido, and sisters Palmira (late Carl) Mancini, Ignia and Anna Formentini and niece Madeline Mancini.

Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights on Monday November 29, 2021 from 9:00 am until 11:15 am to St Agnes Church, Chicago Heights for 12:00 Noon Funeral Mass.
